Two Sisters (and a) New City

Posted by 2 Sisters 2 Cities on October 1, 2012

Greetings From Cali

So I have been MIA once again.  I do have a really good reason this time.  2 Sisters 2 Cities is taking on a new city with New York sister K moving to the San Francisco Bay Area!

My boyfriend’s work gave him an amazing opportunity to transfer to their San Jose offices in California and we decided this was an opportunity we couldn’t refuse.  We basically have one month to get everything ready.  Since we made the decision, it has been a blur of cleaning, packing,  job hunting (for me), finding an apartment, finding a moving company, and selling the things we don’t want to move.

We went out to the area this weekend to look for apartments and check out the area.   Everything went very smoothly and we found an amazing apartment in a brand new complex.  I am completely exhausted from the flight last night but I am recovering bit by bit.

There are a lot of changes coming down the pipeline that I am both excited and scared about.  All of this change at once is completely out of my comfort zone and leaving my family and friends back on the east coast isn’t going to make it easier.  However, I can’t wait to explore new areas, learn about a new city, and make friends on a new coast.

Does anyone have any tips for me about moving across the country and/or undergoing major life changes?  Do you have any tips of things to check out in the bay area?   Do you live in the area and want to be my friend (haha kidding…kind of?)

Be patient with me in the next few weeks.  Once I get a new job locked down I will have a lot more free time after work to post.   I can’t wait to share with you my experiences of a whole new area!  Stay tuned for more California move news!

Sister K’s Favorite Cookbooks

Posted by 2 Sisters 2 Cities on April 10, 2011

I am currently in the middle of moving in with my boyfriend (yeah, I know, I am moving yet again!)  My current lease and my new lease overlap for 15 days so we are moving for the next three weekends.  This weekend, my job was to pack up everything that I won’t need for the rest of the month.   I started packing cookbooks and of course, I had such a hard time packing my favorites in case I needed to cook something from them this month.  I found it funny that Sister M and I don’t have the same favorite cookbooks….

So here we go, my favorite cookbooks are…

dahh dahhh dahhh (haha…come on, I needed that)

1.) Better Homes and Garden New Cook Book (they come up with a new edition all the time,  I have edition 14, they just came out with 15)-  This cookbook is great because it has everything in it!  Forget how to cook corn on the cob or a baked potato?  They have recipes for every basic food there is plus more yummy foods like Beer Can Chicken.

2.) Cooking Light- Complete Cookbook–  Of course sister M and I love out Cooking Light recipes (you probably already know that from reading our blog).  This cookbook is awesome because it also has recipes for everything and makes them in a healthier more delicious way.  My favorite recipes from this cookbooks are the Peanutty Noodles,  Linguine with Clam Sauce,  Spinach Artichoke Dip, and my favorite lunch to bring to work, Black Bean Burrito Bake.

3.) My Family Cookbook (Sorry you can’t buy a copy of this!)- Originally Aunt M (of course no other letter exist in our family) put together a family cookbook for my grandparents’ 50th Anniversary.  Everyone submitted their favorite recipes and she had it published.  She then sends a copy to everyone in the family.   It’s really fun to see all the favorite families from my cousins, sisters, aunts, uncles, parents, and grandparents.  The cookbook was such a hit that my aunt created a newer, larger one with the addition of family pictures this year.   I am not being mean by talking about how great this cookbook while it is unavailable to you- I post recipes all the time from my families cookbook like Buttermilk pancakes, Buckeyes, Scandinavian Almond Bars,  Taco Dip, and much more.  Jealous?  You should start one with your family!

4.) Of course I love Cooking Light Magazine and their annual book.  In order to consolidate for my move, I went through the last two years of Cooking Light’s and marked what I wanted to make and what I have already made in the yearly book.  I then recycled all of the magazines,  it was a big step for me,  I love my Cooking Lights!

Well I must go back to packing…hopefully I will be posting again soon if things don’t get to hectic.

-K
